Living where?
Mariana's trench
...

Merlin was of honored but after certain incidents with the others above, Merlin moved down to the deepest part of earth's ocean. Over time, Merlin received adaptations to withstand such pressure such as a few levels of the sea life, and possibly gaining this ability through the recent nuclear pollution. Mariana's trench has kept Merlin safe for millions of years thus making him over this era. Merlin takes refuge in the dense dark waters of the deepest ocean in a small cave nearby the north side, cornering about the wild life in a free roaming cave that ends quite well. Seclusion is something Merlin dreamed of and when he finally had it, he made this place his own.
In this secret underwater cave den in which he stores his collected usual or bizarre items. Either from the surface or from the deepest depths of the Mariana itself. There is a large nest-like bed that can fit multiple mermaids or mermen, it's all to himself and many shelving units made from the same contents. He has many rare shells, feathers, rocks, gems, and anything else he can get his hands on. Nearby all his little hand crafted home he seems to be a bit of missing.
When Merlin was younger he always wanted to be with the surface and have the intuitive occupation as a designer...
Now he had no chance, his many years dismayed him and he had flippers not feet. Though this didn't stop him from having fun, Merlin began to design his own small civilization in hopes he could find others, others of his kind. The isolation fueled his hopes, he hadn't seen another face in centuries but there was no way he was risking his tail for it. He hoped his kind would come to him, somehow.
